In honour of their ninth F1 World Constructors’ Championship, McLaren has shown a pair of limited-edition models based on the Artura and 750S road cars. Ken Pearson takes a look.
The MCL38 Celebration Edition adds a two-tone papaya orange and anthracite colour scheme to the mid-engined supercars, complete with a number nine made of stars and a champions’ laurel on the nose and headrests.
The papaya hue is also found on the bonnet stripes and all four brake callipers, while the 750S gains an additional orange stripe on the wing mirrors and front splitter. The carbon fibre engine covers feature the signatures of McLaren F1 drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, along with a graphic depicting the championship-winning MCL38.
Inside, each car comes with a piece of carbon fibre bodywork from the F1 racer, and a commemorative plaque lists the pole positions, fastest laps and race wins recorded by the team in the 2024 season.
Only 18 MCL38 Celebration Editions will be built, with an even split between the Artura and 750S coupés. Customers can choose between the 690bhp V6 hybrid of the Artura – which is closer in spirit to the current F1 cars – or the 740bhp V8-powered 750S, whose 206mph top speed is a touch closer to that of a single-seater.
No details of pricing have been given, but it’s safe to assume that these two special models are destined to become highly coveted collectors’ items in as much time as the MCL38 took to get around Monza – exactly one minute and 19.327 seconds.
