Genesis X Gran Coupe & Convertible break cover in Seoul

Unveiled in Seoul, the Genesis X Gran Coupe and Convertible concepts pair elegant proportions and twin-turbo power with a distinctly Mediterranean twist.

The Seoul Motor Show – or mobility show, as they’ve all been rebranded these days – often flies under the radar, much like Hyundai’s flagship luxury brand, Genesis.
Despite showcasing other exciting concepts in the past, the manufacturer has so far remained steadfast in its line-up of saloons and SUVs. But the new Genesis X Gran Coupe Concept and X Gran Convertible Concept, unveiled at the 2025 show, look set to finally break the mould.

Both cars are based upon the G90 saloon, which means piston power – unlike the similarly named all-electric X Convertible. The styling, however, is a significant departure from the source material. Aimed at the likes of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet, BMW 8-series and Lexus LC, the X Gran Coupe Concept certainly looks the part, with its widened hips, tapered rear roofline and low beltline. There are even hints of Cadillac Solei – an equally striking luxury convertible concept revealed last year – in the flanks and proportions.
Genesis says the concepts have a more steeply raked windscreen and a slimmer glasshouse. It has also lengthened the doors and added frameless windows compared to the G90. The firm’s signature Crest Grille dominates the front, with the twin-spar headlights wrapping around the side and creating a strikethrough effect across the front wings. A similar twin light bar adorns the length of the rear of the concepts.
The overall look is angular but beautiful – and, importantly, instantly recognisable as a Genesis.

Despite revealing the cars in Seoul, both concepts carry a strong Mediterranean theme. The X Coupe wears a dark metallic green inspired by Mediterranean olives, while the interior features lashings of olive wood veneer and aluminium. Even Italian olive oil has been infused into the hide's scent during the leather tanning process.
The convertible’s colour, meanwhile, nods to Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from the Livorno region of Italy. Perhaps wisely, Genesis hasn’t stated if its leather is also infused – lest prospective owners find themselves trading tasting notes with Traffic Officers who happen to pull them over…

The official line is the duo have been created to celebrate 10 years of Genesis’ existence. The only production hint comes from Mike Song, Global Head of Genesis: “We aim to seize this opportunity as a launchpad for a new decade, showcasing models that embody Genesis' pursuit of high-performance technology and future luxury design.”
Genesis has yet to clarify whether the concepts use the G90's most powerful 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6, which produces 409bhp and 405lb ft of torque – or if an even more potent Magma variant could be on the cards. There’s also no word yet on which markets the cars might reach. As far as concept cars go, these two look production-ready, and it would be a shame if they didn’t reach the showroom.
Also on display in Seoul is a 1:2-scale model of the GMR-001 hypercar set to compete at Le Mans in 2026.
